We offer a selection of puppetry classes for a wide variety of age groups in many areas

Classes are available in person & by request ONLY, requiring our instructor to travel to other facilities.


However, from time to time,  we will host classes at our studio location.

PUPPETRY

HAND - GLOVE - SHADOW - MOUTH -TABLETOP

 

How to Create Custom Patterns

Level: Beginner

Ages: K-5th grade

Duration: 45 min-1 hour

 

In this workshop participants will cut out and construct their own 3D puppet head shape

Sock Puppets Basics

Level: Beginner

Ages: 1st-5th grades

Duration: 3 hours

Workshop participants will design and build their own sock puppet creation and then practice lip-synching, eye focus, character and movement.

Shadow Puppetry Basics

Level: Beginner

Ages:  K-5th grade

Duration: 45min-1hr

 

In this workshop participants will cut out and construct their own shadow puppet from a printed pattern using plastic snaps and rods attached to moving parts.

 

Puppetry Master Class

Level: Intermediate/Advanced

Ages:  6th grade-adult

Duration: 4-6 hours

 

This class begins with the basics of puppet manipulation for the camera including lip-synching, eye focus, character and movement just using a basic puppet. Later, the class advances to working with actual foam and fleece character puppets to refine skills and create original skits.

Glove Puppet Manipulation

Level: Beginner

Ages: 3rd grade-Adult

Duration: 1 hour

 

This workshop teaches the basics of glove puppetry including manipulation and eye focus using a variety of fun prompts and techniques.












Advanced Hand Puppet Construction

Level: Advanced

Age: 9th grade-Adult (sewing knowledge required)

Duration: 8 hours, spread out over several sessions

 

Participants will learn valuable skills needed to build their very own puppets. They will design and build a full “muppet-style” puppet and will receive instruction on gluing, adding features, building a mouth plate and the basics of manipulation.

 

Television Puppetry Basics

Level: Intermediate

Ages:  6th grade-Adult

Duration: 3 hours

 

Participants will learn the basics of puppeteering for television. With the use of hand puppets they will be taught the basics of manipulation in front of a camera, lip-syncing, eye focus, character, and movement using improvisation and song. Participants will be broken into groups to present an original sketch on camera using skills they learned in class.

Glove Puppet Construction

Level: Intermediate

Ages: 4th grade-Adult (sewing skills recommended)

Duration: 3 hours

Participants will design and construct a simple glove puppet and have the opportunity to explore manipulation through movement and character.












Table Top Puppet Construction

Level: Beginner

Ages: 3rd grade-adult

Duration: 3 hours

 

In this workshop, participants will learn how to build a simple table top puppet using newspaper, tape and string and learn the basics of table top manipulation through dance, puppet “yoga” and performing short scenes.

SCULPTURE - MASK MAKING - 

 

Latex Mask Making (Half Mask)

Level: Advanced

Ages: Highschool+

Duration: 4 days, 7hr scessions

 

In this workshop participants will learn the techniques used to bring some of the most beloved, horrific, and terrifying monsters in television and film to life.

In this class, we will cover creature anatomy, how to collect references, create concept artwork, learn how to work with various types of clay and sculpting tools. We will also cover sculpting techniques, mold-making, and casting. Sculpting and mold making will be done in class.

 

Each student will be provided with an armature/sculpting base, 1 bag of WED clay, a set of sculpting tools, (mold making material will be provided in class ie: bucket, plaster, burlap), 1 case of slip-cast latex.

 

Creature Maquette Sculpting

Level: Intermediate

Ages: Highschool+

Duration: 3 days - 7hr Scessions

 

In this workshop participants will learn the techniques used to bring some of the most beloved, horrific, and terryfing monsters in television and film to life. A maquette is a small-scale sculpture, generally used in film when conceptualizing a character to help visualize how a something looks in three dimensions.

In this class, we will cover creature anatomy, how to collect references, create concept artwork, and learn how to work with various types of clay and sculpting tools. Each student will build an armature, then start and finish a complete creature maquette by the end of the course.

 

Character Creation Basics

Level: Beginner

Ages: K-5th grade

Duration: 45 min-1 hour
